In my first blog post, I initially planned to do a game design document for the project. However, with some consideration, I decided against the idea. I realized that even though I do not have any game design documents to showcase in my portfolio, I had an abundance of experience in doing at least one game design document every semester. Since my interest is in marketing and I barely had any experience with marketing plans, I decided that a marketing plan would be the most appropriate project in helping me to develop my career path.

The outcomes that I had identified in my marketing plan are below. Although I had to add a new section called situation analysis, which pushed all of the other sections back a few days, I was still able to achieve all of the outcomes I had identified by the end of the semester.

Marketing Objectives (Achieved)

Product Overview: A brief description of the game’s core mechanics, narrative, and visual audio styles. (Achieved)

Situation Analysis: Descriptions on how the economy, social trends, and the advancement of technologies would have an impact on the product (Achieved)

Target Market: Descriptions of the targeted audience and the competitors in the mobile puzzle market (Achieved)

Distribution: The channels that I would push the game through (Achieved)

Pricing: The price I would set the product and the justification behind my decision (Achieved)

Promotion: The strategies I would use to establish brand engagement and awareness (Achieved)

The outcomes from the project were based on the attributes that companies find desirable from marketing graduates. The most common attributes are; excellent written and verbal communications, attention to details and the ability to do marketing research (LinkedIn, 2019; Seek, 2019; Indeed, 2019). Incorporating these attributes into my marketing plan can better position myself into the industry by demonstrating to recruiters that I have what it takes to succeed in their companies.

The outcomes from the project strongly demonstrated that my written communication is articulate and easy to read. Therefore, I could effectively communicate my research and findings to stakeholders. Second, the outcomes had shown that I could pay attention to details. For example, I thought about all of the information that a company would need to know when marketing its goods/services. In the end, I came up with the 7 sections that I thought were the most essential in the marketing plan. Lastly, the outcomes demonstrated that I have what it takes to conduct marketing research for companies. I ensured that my research came from high quality and reliable sources such as government and industry reports. A challenge was that there was a lot of information that I was able to gather. However, I was able to assimilate information that had the most impactful for the imaginary company in my marketing plan. Being able to assimilate information based on their importance further shows to recruiters that I can conduct marketing research effectively.
